An internationally lauded contemporary jeweller and object maker, Mari Funaki was instrumental in establishing Melbourne’s reputation as a strong centre for contemporary jewellery, founding Gallery Funaki in 1995.
The Mari Funaki Award for Contemporary Jewellery was established in 2014 to celebrate the life of our friend and founder, and to recognise the talents of emerging and established artists worldwide.
Prizes are offered in two categories. The Established Artist prize of A$8000 is an acquisitive prize, with the winning piece entering the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria. The Emerging Artist prize of A$2000 is a non-acquisitive prize. The selected work will be exhibited at Gallery Funaki in a major exhibition in August-September 2016.
